The Fenners Approach

Whilst grounded in the common law tradition, Fenners Chambers is organised around groups of barristers, each led by a senior member of chambers and specialising in different areas of work: Commercial, Crime, Environment & Planning, Employment, Family, Personal Injury, Property and  Probate & Inheritance law. Within each group there is further individual specialisation.

The degree of specialisation varies from member to member and some members are prepared to undertake work, especially advocacy, in certain areas outside their main specialisations. In particular, more junior members often cover a broad spectrum of work until their specialisations are sufficiently well defined.

Legal 500 2008 -

 - ".... in the East, two sets are dominant.... Fenners Chambers...."

Family -

"Lindsay Davies is recommended for family proceedings of the utmost difficulty";  "Susan Espley handles difficult cases with great sensitivity and even greater determination";  Simon Tattersall is widely experienced in complex financial provision for clients, such as his recent instruction involving divorce after one spouse's catastrophic injury".

Crime -

"Mike Magee recently defended clients in the R -v- Ngamga advanced fraud conspiracy"; Lawrence Bruce has established a very good defence practice for his 2000 call. He appeared in the Court of Appeal in R -v- Meeks & Jones".

Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence -

"Paul Hollow has a wide practice in both fields and is particularly expert in psychological injuries cases".

Property, Planning and Environmental -

"Bruce Monnington is an international expert in agricultural land matters and is highly recommended for rural land issues";  "Andrew Gore is a negotiator of tremendous tact and subtlety". Geraint Jones has a large following for his expert property law practice";  "Daniel Owen specialises in international marine matters and is instructed by national and international public bodies";  "Alasdair Wilson is very thorough and always extremely well prepared - and fights his case in property disputes". (Legal 500 2010).

We realise that for many lay clients litigation can be a new and worrying experience and we welcome the opportunity of a personal meeting. An early conference can be invaluable, enabling counsel to provide a clearer assessment of the case and enhancing the client's appreciation of the issues involved. We are always happy to review cases as they progress.

Our Cambridge office has a number of conference rooms, including ground floor rooms with access and facilities for visitors with disabilities. There is also ample on-site parking.

Alternatively, we will be pleased to attend conferences at solicitors' offices. Where the dispute concerns property, or if the client has a disability, a conference at the client's premises may be more convenient.
